The Ultimate Guide to Power-Ups in Angry Birds Friends
Let’s be honest. Sometimes the pigs build like they’ve got an engineering degree you’ve never even heard of. That’s where optional tools called Power-Ups come in. Smart, strategic, occasionally explosive tools. Used well, they can turn a near-miss into a mass collapse or push your score high enough to make the pigs question their life choices.
There are six Power-Ups in total: Wingman, Boombox, Birdquake, Sling Scope, King Sling, and Power Potion. Each brings something different to the table. And yup, Power-Ups can also backfire if you get a little too greedy.
In this guide, we’ll break down what they do, when to use them, and how to combine them for maximum pig-popping efficiency.
Before You Power-Up
A few ground rules before you go full demolition expert:
- Scout first, smash later. Try a practice run without Power-Ups to see what you’re dealing with. Knowledge is power.
- Play smart, spend smart. Skilled play can earn back the Power-Ups you used.
- Go for bundles. Each Power-Up has a base cost, but you’ll get more when buying in bigger bundles.
- Spin daily. Visit the game every day to get a free Jackpot Wheel spin to gather Power-Ups or Bird Coins.
- Play the game modes. Tournaments, Piggy-Matic, Star Cup, and Blue’s Tallest Tower all reward you with Power-Ups or Bird Coins.
- Yes, you can beat everything without Power-Ups… but getting 3 stars on the very toughest levels might take almost as many retries as there’s pigs.
- Check out Webshop deals. As a Red’s Club member, you’ll find high-value bundles with just the Power-Ups you need.

Power Potion
A a jug of magic that temporarily super-sizes your bird. Use it before launching a bird, and suddenly you’ve got a feathered wrecking ball. The bigger birds tend to deal more damage on collision and pushes through bigger structures. If used on a Boombox or Wingman, those also become giant.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 20
- Maximum usage per level: 4
- Effect duration: One fling
Pro Tips:
- Experiment. Every bird behaves differently when supersized.
- Pair with King Sling for blazing speed + mass = maximum destruction.
- Combine with Boombox for mega blast radius explosions.
- Use with Wingman if you want to smash entire sections of the level, and possibly your doubts about scoring big.
- Aim carefully. Missing wastes the effect, and nobody likes wasted growth spurt.
- Not ideal for tight spaces. A giant bird doesn’t squeeze enough to reach all pigs or switches.
- Smaller birds cover less ground, even when enlarged.

King Sling
Because sometimes you just need more oomph! King Sling upgrades your current slingshot for the entire level. All birds launched will fly faster and farther than normal. This means longer range and extra collision power.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 15
- Maximum usage per level: 1
- Effect duration: Entire level
Pro Tips:
- Combine with Sling Scope to control all that extra power.
- Boosts the effectiveness of Power Potion.
- Great for long-distance hits or reaching that one smug pig in the back.
- Be careful: you can’t turn it off. Some trick shots and portals need finesse, not force.
- Try combining with different birds and slingshots: Chuck can chop a long row of wood in half, especially if you have the Wood Chipper slingshot.

Sling Scope
Your built-in aiming assistant. When activated, it shows a dotted flight path so you know exactly where your bird will go before you launch. The Sling Scope stays active for the rest of the level, so you can line up multiple shots this way.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 10
- Maximum usage per level: 1
- Effect duration: Entire level
Pro Tips:
- Perfect for tight shots, tricky angles, and level 10.
- Great for cleaning up after chaos. Looking at you, Birdquake.
- Especially useful for newer players until you’ve mastered the flings.
- Pairs nicely with long-range Diamond Sling and King Sling.
- Lets you hit your mark the first time and avoid using more power-ups than necessary.

Birdquake
Shake things up, literally. Birdquake rattles the entire level, causing unstable structures to collapse and pigs to lose their footing, and dignity. Perfect for knocking down a hanging pig or causing chain collapses, but a word of caution: while there’s rumors of levels you can finish with one Birdquake only, there are also situations where Birdquake has no impact at all.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 15
- Maximum usage per level: 2
- Effect duration: Varies
Pro Tips:
- Use early in busy levels to create instant chain collapses or to make puzzles easier to solve.
- Double-tap it (use twice) for extended wobbly destruction.
- Not all levels benefit. If everything’s sturdy, you’ll just… shake things awkwardly. There is a learning curve to know which situations call for Birdquake.
- Potential for the highest score and chain destruction from one Power-Up.
- Timing matters. Activate mid-fling for a perfectly timed structural “nudge.”
- All Birdquakes aren’t equal, since the structures and pigs can fall to either side.

Boombox
The Boombox replaces your next bird with a TNT crate. It can explode on impact or float gently down before detonating if you trigger the parachute mid-air. The Boombox gives you 500 points upon destruction.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 25
- Maximum usage per level: 2
- Effect duration: Until it explodes
Pro tips:
- Pair with Power Potion for absurdly large blast radius.
- Can hit targets like detonators and pigs behind thin, indestructible walls. Sneaky!
- Great for final clean-up of distant targets, especially with the right slingshot.
- Similar to Bomb’s power, but doesn’t burrow.
- Ideal for triggering chain TNT reactions or mass-collapses.

Wingman
When you need a hero! Wingman swoops in as a powerful force of destruction. He replaces your current bird and smashes through nearly everything in his path. Wingman’s clothing is known to change based on the tournament theme. If you activate Wingman, but don’t use it before completing a level, you’ll be awarded 10k points.
- Base cost in Bird Coins: 30
- Maximum usage per level: 2
- Effect duration: One fling
Pro Tips:
- Rarely goes alone. Pair with Power Potion for maximum impact, especially if you see bouncy pads.
- Add King Sling if you’re aiming for absolute devastation.
- Excellent for high-scoring areas and leaderboard climbs.
- Gains speed as he destroys things, which is great… until it isn’t. Too much speed can overshoot your target.
- Safer to aim lower in the level for high-scoring areas or base of towers.
- Plan your angle carefully with Sling Scope. Wingman doesn’t do “gentle.”
Power-Ups open up new strategies, create bigger moments, and help you turn “almost” into “nailed it.”
